Happy 107th Birthday to the Golgi apparatus! In 1898, the famous neuroanatomist Camillo Golgi reported that he discovered a ribbon-like apparatus inside neurons of the cerebellum. This structure now bears his name as the "Golgi apparatus."

"I'll be misunderstood," Golgi said.
"That's not true! Your apparatus will always be with us," his assistant, Jim Goodstanding, replied.
"But nobody will know what it does except brain surgeons," said the inconsolable Golgi.
"Bloggers will know," said mysterious Jim, who was so many years ahead of his time, and should have been promoted.
