Hope you got here okay. How was the Mall of America?
UPDATE: Mom emails to say she has not checked the blog, and will not until she returns from one of the 10,000 lakes later this week. Having a life contest: Mom 1, Sarah 0.

Hi Sarah,
I made it back from the land 'o' lakes and found this blog at last. On poetry, did you know that, just last week, the Minnesota legislature wanted to create a state position of "poet laureate," and the governor vetoed it? In the complicated dance of popular arts versus "high" arts, controlable message versus unpredictable artist, state sponsorship versus anti-government, no-new-taxes sentiments, etc, etc, the poet laureate concept seemed risky. This suggests that poetry might be read (or at least feared or possibly manipulated) more widely than you think. Love mom
